THESE GUYS DIDN'T READ THE MUSIC-THEY FELT THE MUSIC!

by Dwight L. Quinn
While the band was on break, from running track no.3 at the Studio, I asked LiL Aaron, who else did he play for while in East St. Louis, and he said,B.B.King. Story went like this,LiL Aaron said that,it was on a Friday around noon time and a Friend of his came to his job and told him that B.B.King was in town and needed a Bass player to sit in for his man,who for some reason wouldn't be able to play that night. B.B.King was in town doing a Show at the Judges Chambers which later became known as the Mambo Key Club that was located at that time on Main Street and Broadway Ave in East St. Louis. LiL Aaron said he was speechless and began to shake a bit from the offer, to play along side and for B.B.King who was then the new up and coming Blues Star that was Charting on R&B Charts by storm and dominated Urban Blues Radio Stations around the country and now by a stroke of faith LiL Aaron would be thrusted into the limelight onstage along side this new rising Blues Star.. So, LiL Aaron accepted, and the rest is history. I asked LiL Aaron what was B.B.King big song at that time, and he said it was, Sweet Sixteen. After that night LiL Aaron added the song to his Show, and began to build his awesome show-stopping Blues Band in the Metropolitan St.Louis area. Lil Aaron and his Band played weekend nights at Franks Tavern, at 24th Rear Kansas Ave. in East St.Louis as well as other popular Blues Clubs. I asked LiL Aaron than, could he sing the song on the next session after his break was up and he said, yes!. He wasn't worried about laying it down the way it sounded almost 50 years ago, because his famous Sideman,Side kick and best friend was right there in the Studio with him, the Legendary Riley "Coatie"Morgan, lead guitarist and harmonica player, just these two guys alone brought together a combined Blues Music experience of over 140 years and for the Band itself it made up of Riley Coatie's Children, whom he taught from childhood how play those instruments in the way and style that he was taught by his music teachers. LiL Aaron always told me that he learned to play his music and bass guitar by ear and by the way he felt the music. And they started to play.....GO SLOW-Blues Crossing! BUY IT HERE

WE CAN ALL SING TOGETHER,BUT WE CAN'T TALK TOGETHER!!

by Dwight L. Quinn

An ole saying that my father use to use on me, when he was chewing me out about something that I done that was wrong, and I would be trying to get my point across that usually winds up with his position well taken, because the point that he used that always got across to me, was his famous mine-regulator a.k.a. "the attitude-adjuster", I knew it as,"right-cross". No I did not say,Rugged-Cross,Raymond-Cross,Roy-Cross or Rubber-Cross, Read-me, I said "Right-Cross( p.s), With A Hand Attached To It. So,I ended up, in agreement with my dear father, who stressed to me that"People regardless as to who they are,can all "Sing Together",and sound pretty good I suppose but "They Can't Talk Together". To get anything accomplished someone has to Talk, while the other one Listens, now when that situation is on "Q" and the harmony is tight than they too will "sound pretty good". And as for my Father may he Rest-In-Peace,I want to say that I love him and miss him dearly,he's my idol and I haven't forgot not one thing that he had taught me while he was alive. And yes,I turned out pretty good, I sought Wisdom, with the RIGHT CROSS and now today, I listens while another talks and thus I gets Wiser.-GO SLOW-Blues Crossing!

AFTER TWO THOUSAND AND EIGHTY (2080) MONDAYS.

by Dwight L.Quinn

QUINN RECORDS TM TOP TEN (10) SONG CHARTS FOR MONDAY 10/08/2012 IS POSTED!

"It's MONDAY AND After 2080 Monday's I'm Still Asking The Same Old Question, That I Asked The Day I First Started Work In The Blues Music Business, 2080 Monday's Ago."What Makes A Good Song?" And the answer boils down to who you are talking too, if the expect is a musician, than it's the Melody and I agree in part,if the expect is the song writer than it's the Lyrics and I agree in part, and if the expect is a Producer than it's in the Performing Artist and here again I agree in part on that answer, too. But personally I think that they are all right in one sense of the matter ,but as a whole there is no one right answer .See I never thought of myself as being no expect in this business from the start, I most always relied on Public Opinion, for my answers because music affects people in differents ways and the way people use music is different, also. People that I talk to about the song that they likes generally display one common denominator that lead me to believe that the key ingredient in What Makes A Good Song is,"Attitude" this is from observation and my personal observation, only I haven't seen any studies nor articles dealing with this observation of Attitude. But I've noticed that people who likes, let say a song such as,Keep On Keeping On generally display a simuliar attitude about the same song or same song type.Is it the song that's shape the attitude or is it the Attitude that shapes the song? I could not tell you, for that is not my area of expertise, but I do know that a group that like let say the Beatles all have generally, again simuliar Attitudes and the beats goes on So, today when me and my songwriting team get together to write a song for a project we first target a certain Attitude that we want to attract, than we write the song around that attitude. I'm asking ten (10) people to Comment and tell me," Why They Like A Song?", and when I get their answers, than I can tell you weather or not my observation is on target or not and maybe I'll be able to tell you, with some certainty "What Makes A Good Song"? So,Keep Your Ears UP, Eyes Open for................M O R E, BLUES,GOSPEL,JAZZ AND SOUL MUSIC,COMING SOON! GO-SLOW-Blues Crossing!
